Derril Water Solar Park

Shared solar, shared green electricity

Derril Water Solar Park is Ripple’s first shared solar project, and the first solar park in the UK where members share the power as well as the ownership. As our biggest project to date, we are proud to make shared solar ownership possible for thousands of Ripple members.

40 years of clean, low cost electricity generation

Based in Torridge district of Devon, Derril Water Solar Park will have about 70,000 panels with the potential to power around 14,000 homes with the cheapest and greenest power.

Shared solar is a great choice for members who can’t have solar panels installed or would like to top-up their own home solar with solar power from another location. Large, ground mounted solar is a fraction of the cost of home solar. It is also hassle free - we take care of everything for you!

Why is Derril Water the perfect site for Ripple's first shared solar park?

When choosing a new project, we consider a whole host of factors, such as scale, details of the planning consent, infrastructure requirements, financial viability, grid availability and the developer's objectives. Derril Water Solar Park presents a fantastic opportunity for our members.

 reduce your emissions

Land use is a balance between ensuring food security, maintaining biodiversity, infrastructure demands and addressing the climate crisis. Planning laws ensure that the highest quality agricultural land is kept for food production.

 reduce your emissions

Derril Water land is a mixture of Grade 3 and 4 which is deemed moderate to poor agricultural land. It's a great choice for a solar park in light of the climate and energy crisis. The number one threat to our food supply is climate change and developing new renewable energy projects is a key part of combatting this.

The project has been specifically designed to be dual-purpose. Less than 4% of the land will be physically occupied by the infrastructure, allowing sheep grazing to continue on over 96% of the site.

In addition to the green power it produces, there will be a host of ecological and biodiversity enhancements on the site. Thanks to the new bee banks, wildflower meadows and hedgerows, it is anticipated that the number of habitat units will increase by 90% and there will be an increase of 30% to existing hedgerows.
